The city of Labin is located on the eastern part of the beautiful peninsula Istria and is only 3 kilometers away from the sea. The city rised up where once used to be a Roman settlement Albona. During the history, in Labin and it's surrounding out of all the economic activities, mining was the most represented one. The intense mining business lasted over 400 years. Because the mine in Labin stoppedworking, there was a huge mining crisis, ending up with mining being fully shutdown. Then, the city starts to work on developing it's tourism and creating economy zones. Today, because of the vicinity of the city of Rabac, a well known tourist destination on the east of Istria, the tourism of Labin keeps becoming more and more developed. The city consists out of two parts: old city located on a hill, and the other part, Podlabin, located in the one's foothill. The old Labin is an acropolis kind of settlement, and offers a variety of historical-cultural monuments and many beautiful Reneissance and Baroque palaces. There is also a museum in which you can find many kinds of collections – the etnographic one, the history-cultural one, archeologic and so on. Because of it's good traffic connections, nice Mediterranean clime conditions and diversity of events being held during entire year, Labin has everything it takes to make the tourist season last longer. During the fall, in Labin and it's surroundings our visitors can take part in the olive harvest, and see the process of making olive oil and other Mediterranean products. Also, in many local restaurants you can provide some typical Istrians dishes with autumn fruits (different meals with mushrooms, truffle, Labin cheese and others).
