Rogoznica

Rogoznica is a place in central Dalmatia, in Šibenik-Knin County, with around 1200 inhabitants. It is located half way between Trogir and Šibenik, on the part of the mainland which protrudes deep into the Adriatic Sea, near the famous cape Planka. Rogoznica Riviera stretches some 50 kilometres along the Adriatic coast. Rogoznica has developed in one of the most protected bays in the Adriatic, due to which it is very popular amongst sailors. That was recognized by private investors who built marina Frapa near Rogoznica, known as one of the biggest and most modern marinas in the Adriatic, but also as a place for great entertainment (night club, dance parties etc.). Rogoznica is famous for its pebble beaches which are scattered on different sides of the peninsula and the island on which it is situated, pine forests, Mediterranean vegetation, the sounds of seagulls and crickets... As a typical Dalmatian tourist place, Rogoznica boasts good-quality accommodation in the form of apartments and villas, and mild Mediterranean climate which is one of the main advantages of this lovely Dalmatian place. In Rogoznica there are several fish restaurants where Dalmatian fish specialties are served. Rogoznica is also famous for the “Dragon’s Eye”, a unique geomorphological phenomenon – a sea lake some 15 meters deep, created after the last ice age, around 10 000 years ago. Every thirty years the water in this lake “boils”, which results in the death of all organisms living in the lake. There are various legends about the emergence of the lake. According to one of them, a dragon lives inside the lake, which is how the lake got its name.
