South Dalmatia is home to some of the most breathtakingly beautiful coastal scenes that can be found across the whole of Europe. Coastal mountains overlook a vast array of lush scenery and there are palm trees and olive groves to be found throughout South Dalmatia. Several of the more popular tourist destinations of Croatia are located in South Dalmatia.
Split
If you are looking for a vibrant, bustling holiday then look no further than Split. Split is a beautiful mixture of buildings from around 300AD and more recent architecture that has been added over the last 1700 years. You can walk along ancient walkways to visit beautiful seafront cafés and sample local fish in the restaurants on offer. The Old Town is a must visit destination and is made up of remains of the Diocletian's Palace and further conversions that have happened in the years since. This makes for a fantastic mixture of architecture that is unlike anything elsewhere in Croatia.
Makarska
The town of Makarska is home to limestone buildings which have stood the test of time. If you are looking for an active holiday then Makarska is the must visit destination for you. Makarska has many sporting opportunities on offer such as hiking, paragliding and surfing. You can also enjoy more traditional family activities, such as days on the beach building sandcastles, and sample delicious fish caught in the local fisheries.
Gradic
As Gradic is located on the Makarska Riviera it is home to stunning views of Mount Biokovo. In Gradic you can enjoy exploring walled footpaths lined with olive groves and grapevines. Here you can enjoy olive oil, wine and other food and drink items that are locally produced. Accommodation in Gradic is different to many of the other areas of South Dalmatia but there are a wide variety of villas and apartments available for rental, even outside of the popular Summer months.
Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik is a beautiful destination to experience the true Mediterranean lifestyle that Croatia can offer. You can take a stroll by the stunning Adriatic sea, enjoy a walk among the ancient city walls, pass beautiful baroque buildings or take a dip in the stunning ocean. There is a plethora of delicious food and drink on offer here with lots of items being locally produced. You can also enjoy a cable car trip up Mount Srđ where you can look out across the stunning views that the Adriatic has to offer.
Brela (Island)
Brela Island is a beautiful, but tiny rock island that is home to one of the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the World. The sunset here is glorious and this tiny island is home to some of the most stunning views on offer in Europe. Your trip here may be short but the memories of the golden sunset will last with you forever.
Southern Dalmatia is absolutely beautiful and makes the perfect location to rest, relax and indulge in locally produced food and drink. Split is the most well known part but there are a vast array of other areas waiting to be explored.
